TRACY COURT RESIDENCE
Los Altos Hills, CA, 2003This renovation project evolves in process and becomes a complete remaking of an early 80's spec. house. Working with the basic shapes of the envelope we find a new vocabulary of forms and materials as we try to take the best advantage of the adjacent open space preserve and heritage oak trees. Cedar siding, copper roofing and raw concrete blend the exterior into a drought tolerant landscape to create an understated elegance. Exterior materials are intentionally brought indoors to further bind the house to its place. Inside there are actually two houses connected by a bridge across a double height living room. A number of environmental planning strategies are incorporated including; fly ash concrete, geothermal heat, radiant floors, sustainable and engineered lumber, cellulose insulation, bamboo flooring, and low VOC paints and finishes.
